The Kids Closet began in 2003 to help fulfill a need in the area for children’s good used clothing. As of 2021, more than 579 families have visited the Closet, with many families coming several times a year. The Closet accepts gently worn clothes for infants through 12th graders. Many Northeast members also watch for sales and buy new clothing to donate. Additionally, new socks and underwear are always needed.
Kids Closet is open every other month from 9-11:45am, however is by appointment only during COVID. Most months there is a need for four Northeast adults to greet families and help them find clothes, and one or two middle or high school students to entertain the children while they wait. Sign-up lists can be found on the hallway bulletin board.
All the families in the community who visit the Kids’ Closet express their gratitude for this outreach ministry.
There are people all around the community that need a little bit of help. One of the ways we want to reach community members is through Blessing Bags. Blessing Bags happen about twice a year. They are filled with items such as socks, toiletries, toothbrushes, toothpastes, and things of that nature. We will often throw in a seasonal need as well.
Blessing Bags are given to the congregation and then the congregation gives those bags to people who they see need them while they are out in the community.
If you would like to donate to this cause we are always looking for socks, deodorant, feminine products, travel sized toothpaste and tooth brushes, combs, hair brushes, gloves, Bandaids, Kleenex, and small nail clippers. Thank you in advance!
