In 2011, Bryan and Katie Torwalt released the song, “Holy Spirit.” Since then it has been covered by many different artists and is played quite a bit on Christian Radio stations. One of the reasons the Torwalt’s wrote this song was to help encourage people to open their hearts and eyes to the Spirit’s continual, powerful presence in our lives.
Right now, for a lot of people, there are a lot of uncertainties. We have lived in a year with a worldwide pandemic, for some people money has been extra tight for the last year, jobs might be scarce for some, loved ones have been sick or might even have passed on now, the country is in the middle of changing political hands, and there are a lot of things that just seem to be unknown right now. But there is something that we can look at and know that it will be there throughout everything. That is the presence of our Lord! Throughout their song, there is a Biblical Truth about Jesus that we need to remember today. That Jesus is our living hope. 1 Peter 1:3 reminds us that we have a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead. He is a hope that we always will have. Jesus will always be there for us and we can count on that.
It is easy for us to let our lives be filled up with junk. That junk can consist of many things from the way we treat people, to the things we say, to the things we consume on a daily basis. According to Digital Marketing, the average internet user spends 144 minutes on social media sites daily! Think about all of the things we consume during that time. We are constantly in a battle to determine what shapes our mindsets and our outlooks.
The reason I bring up the song “Holy Spirit” is because it reminds us of what we should be filling our lives with. Some of the lyrics say the following, “Holy Spirit, You are welcome here. Come flood this place and fill the atmosphere. Your glory, God, is what our hearts long for, to be overcome by your presence, Lord.”
Are you letting the Holy Spirit fill you? Are you seeking the presence of the Lord? When everything else around us is falling, when we look at life and things seem so negative, we often turn to a source that is offering short term bandages instead of eternal solutions.
This week I want to encourage you to become more aware of the Lord’s Presence. To experience the glory of the Lord’s Goodness. Psalm 34:8 reminds us, “Oh, taste and see that the Lord is good! Blessed is the man who takes refuge in him!” Instead of spending so much time in the news, social media, or whatever is pulling you down, spend some time in the Word of God, with our Living Hope that is always there for us. Let the Holy Spirit fill you up instead of letting the world fill your life. May we set our hearts, and sight on the presence and glory of Jesus Christ and fill our hearts with what is good.
Our hope is found in Jesus,
