“Let them do good, that they be rich in good works, ready to give willing to share.” 1 Timothy 6:18
This morning we would like to introduce you to, Blessing Bags. Blessing bags contain the basic essentials that someone would need on a daily basis. However, these bags contain much more than the essentials someone may need day-to-day… They also contain love, empathy, kindness, and so much more. Through the act of giving, we can show our neighbors and community the love of Christ.
From now until October 18th, you can donate any of the items that are needed. Please feel free to give as little or as much of the items. Once the items have been collected, C.R.E.W. (Our Youth and Family Ministry) will assemble the bags together after participating in a lesson that focuses on being the light of the world and loving our neighbors. Then, the bags will be placed in a location to be determined later, for everyone to have a chance to take a bag and distribute it to someone who is in need.
Other than the items listed, the bags will include a handwritten letter of encouragement, a letter explaining the plan of salvation, and one additional letter letting the individual know that the bag was put together with love from the Churches of Christ. We are saying from the local Churches of Christ so that if you find someone in need in a different location that is far from Northeast, then hopefully they look into their own local Church of Christ in the future.
We are looking for some of the following items. If you do not wish to personally go shopping, but would still like to donate, you can give us a monetary donation and at the end of the donation period we will send some people out to shop for the items that are still needed. We are looking for travel sizes of… Socks – Wet Wipes – Packs of Kleenex – Toothbrush and toothpaste – Nail Clippers – Band Aids – Chapstick – Comb or small brush – Deodorant – Maxi Pads for women – Lotion – Sunscreen – EmercenC, Airborne, Chewable Multivitamins – Raisins/dried fruit – Beef jerky (even if you can’t chew well, you can suck on this until its mush and get the protein) – Tuna and crackers – Granola bar or cereal bar – Fruit Snack or applesauce cup/pouch – Crackers with peanut butter or cheese – Mints – Cough drops – Chocolate (sure it may melt, but it still tastes good), Water bottles, SEASONAL ITEMS (Winter/knit hat, poncho, hand warmers).
We are looking forward to the opportunity to help out community members. Our goal is to have 20 complete bags this time and 25-30 additional bags in the spring time. If you have any questions, please let us know and we will be glad to help out!
Be Blessed, Mark Casella and Billy Miller
